BRWM is in the process of developing Bexar County Regional digital flood insurance rate maps (DFIRMs). The purpose of this study is to examine and evaluate the flood hazard areas in the communities that are developed or are likely to be developed and to determine flood elevations for those areas. Flood elevations will be used by the communities and county to carry out the floodplain management objectives of the National Flood Insurance Program. They will also be used as the basis for determining the appropriate flood insurance premium rates for buildings and their contents. Over 1,100 stream miles are being studied and new DFIRMs are planned for the entire county.
This map shows the streams and rivers that will be modeled and re-mapped in Bexar County. The effort includes more than 1,100 stream miles.
